Traffic incident management (TIM) is the backbone of transportation systems management and operations (TSMO). TIM programs significantly reduce travel delay and non-recurring congestion, improve responder and traveler safety, support energy savings and better air quality, and more.
TIM programs include elements such as development of unified policies, procedures, operations and communication systems among TIM responders; the application of advanced technologies to improve traffic incident detection, response, and clearance; safety service patrols and prepositioning of TIM equipment; interdisciplinary training including implementation of the National TIM Responder Training program, in traffic control, improved and incentivized towing procedures and practices; and traveler information.
