North Carolina Department of Transportation Announced as NOCoE TSMO Awards Overall Winner
Agency’s work during Hurricane Florence illustrates the best aspects of TSMO.
Thank you! The response to our call for submissions for the inaugural Transportation Systems Management & Operations (TSMO) Awards has been overwhelming. It’s always a little nerve wracking trying something like this for the first time, but you’ve told us repeatedly, there should be a place to celebrate the accomplishments of TSMO practitioners and we are thrilled to tell you the number and quality of submissions bears that out.
Traffic Incident Management is an effective way to introduce the value of TSMO to both your agency as well as the traveling public. State DOTs and local agencies around the country have transformed their operations, strengthened regional and interagency partnerships, and increased safety and reliability for the traveling public, all through Traffic Incident Management programs. Also, the national effort from U.S. DOT to deliver TIM trainings to responders around the country is one of our industry's best examples of knowledge transfer and the value of comprehensive training programs.
The 2018 Transportation Technology Tournament featured nine student teams working to develop technology and operations solutions to solve real-world transportation challenges. After undergoing trainings and working with local and state agencies, teams developed an initial solution document providing an overview of their ITS or TSMO solution. After judges evaluated these documents, four teams were chosen to attend ITE 2018 to present on their solutions in person.
