The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Program invites all emergency medical service (EMS), fire and rescue, law enforcement, public works, towing and recovery, transportation, and other traffic incident response professions to participate in the National Kickoff webinar for CRSW.

This kickoff event is hosted by FHWA Office of Transportation Operations and will honor responders, provide an overview of activities taking place across the country, and connect all responder stakeholders to kickoff this important week.

Additionally, the FHWA TIM Program Team (Jim Austrich, Paul Jodoin, and Joe Tebo) will share information regarding:

  • The coordinated approach and unique strategies in promoting CRSW.
  • Technologies for saving responder and all road user lives.
  • Efforts towards better understanding the responder struck-by problem.
  • A refresh for the National TIM Responder training debuting this month.

Please join this National Kickoff webinar to learn about the actions that response leaders and every responder can take to advance the safety of incident responders and road users. We encourage every boots-on-the-ground traffic incident responder, and response leadership to attend this Kickoff Webinar and sign the National CRSW Proclamation.

NOCoE Goes to AMPO

The Connection Between Planning & TSMO

NOCoE recently attended the Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations (AMPO) Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah to discuss the connection between planning and transportation systems management and operations (TSMO).

While there, NOCoE talked with transportation leaders striving to connect TSMO with planning, including: Carlos Braceras, Executive Director of Utah DOT, Matt Hardy, Deputy Executive Director of ITE, and Shailen Bhatt, Senior Vice President and COO for AtkinsRéalis, who was also a founding board member of NOCoE in 2015.

They emphasize the importance of planning for all aspects of infrastructure, including devices and facilities used to better operate the transportation system. Shailen Bhatt highlighted how planning for non-recurring congestion can even enable road side responders working to quickly clear incidents. Carlos Braceras discussed the role planners can play in building the resiliency of the system and the ability to respond to natural disasters and systemwide disruptions.

Braceras emphasized: "if we're not thinking about operations in the planning stage, we're missing a big opportunity."
