Next Generation of TMSs

“Next-Generation” traffic management systems (TMSs) and centers (TMCs) offer the potential to transform how agencies actively manage and operate their system while improving the safety and mobility of all travelers. The availability of emerging sources of data, high speed telecommunication networks, advanced computing, and information sharing represent a generational shift from the methodologies used to develop and deploy existing systems. Transitioning to the next generation of TMSs will require agencies to make critical decisions, such as whether to upgrade or replace an entire system, modify or replace components (e.g., software platform, data platform), technologies, and/or field devices.  The following resources are available to support agencies as they plan for or pursue the next generation of their TMS.
