Transitioning from Legacy to the Next Generation of TMSs

The next generation of transportation management systems (TMS) that replace or augment existing or legacy systems or integrate the use of new technologies which may provide new capabilities, functions or improve the performance of existing systems.  The next generation of these systems may also provide the ability by which new features and functions are more easily integrated with existing functions and capabilities.  FHWA is developing the following resources to assist agencies planning for or preparing to transition from a legacy to the next generation of their TMS or specific components.  These resources will support agencies with identifying issues to consider in the planning and preparation they may need in advance of transitioning from the existing (or legacy) to the next generation of each component and/or the entire TMS.
