Using Winter Severity Indices for Winter Maintenance Performance Management

Start Date:

-

Summary:

The purpose of this webinar is to share experiences from transportation agencies that have successfully developed a methodology for Winter Severity Indices (WSI) and have used it to measure and report performance. Three speakers—two from two state departments of transportation and a representative from Canada—will present their respective agency's approach.

Assessing the performance of winter maintenance activities continues to be challenging for many state and local agencies. One of the primary challenges stems from the difficulty in comparing performance between events, regions, and seasons. Creating a winter severity index is one way to allow for a consistent approach to normalizing performance at an agency.

This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Winter Maintenance.

Participants must register in advance of the webinar, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor or non-TRB Sustaining Affiliate employees. A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) will be provided to attendees who register and attend the webinar as an individual.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss real-world experiences in the use of Winter Severity Indices; and
