This webinar will provide an overview of recently-developed material to help agencies interested in initiating or expanding ramp metering systems. The webinar is intended to provide broad awareness and information on ramp metering to agency staff across the U.S. It will provide technical information and benefits to support agencies considering ramp metering for the first time or agencies that wish to expand or upgrade their systems. Topics covered will include a brief description of ramp metering, deployment status in the U.S. and measured benefits, common challenges to implementing or expanding ramp metering, and approaches to overcome those challenges. The webinar will conclude with a panel discussion of how to take the next steps in implementing or expanding ramp metering. A panel of representatives from five state departments of transportation (DOTs) - ranging from those that have been metering for over 20 years, to those that just began metering a few years ago, to those that do not have metering but are in the planning stages now - who will provide perspectives on benefits, lessons learned, and overcoming metering challenges in their state.
