Summary:

The CTSO Annual Meeting will be held in Kansas City, MO from August 28 - August 30, 2024.

The Committee on Transportation System Operations (CTSO) focuses on transportation system operations, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and emerging technologies, aiming to enhance safety, system reliability, and highway performance. This committee is dedicated to fostering a culture of transportation systems management and operations (TSMO) nationally. It provides direction to the National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE) and the AASHTO Operations Technical Service Program, in collaboration with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) and the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America).  CTSO takes a leadership role within AASHTO concerning highway transportation and commercial vehicle safety, size and weight issues.

Furthermore, CTSO acts as a repository of technical information, offering solutions and advice on transportation-related communication systems and equipment. This includes Cooperative Automated Transportation (CAT) integration, operations-related cybersecurity, and advocating for sufficient communication spectrum allocation to meet member department needs. The committee also represents AASHTO and its member departments in telecommunications-related proceedings before Federal agencies.

This year, AASHTO's CTSO, in partnership with the Committee on Transportation System Security and Resilience (CTSSR) and FHWA’s Transportation Incident Management Program, is initiating a Transportation Incident Management (TIM) Community of Practice (CoP). The TIM CoP aims to address all facets of TIM, promoting the adoption of TIM principles to minimize emergency responder fatalities and injuries.
