Summary:

This webinar features Iowa DOT, Georgia DOT, and Utah DOT’s uses of social media for incident detection, traveler information, work zones, and planned special events. This webinar is the seventh in the Adventures in Crowdsourcing webinar series.  Crowdsourcing turns transportation system users into real-time sensors on system performance, providing low-cost, high-quality data on traffic operations, roadway conditions, travel patterns, and more. Presenters

Ivan Lichtenstein, Georgia DOT is the media liaison for the Georgia 511 Travel Information. In partnership with the Georgia DOT, Ivan makes the public aware of traffic incidents via social media. He also engages in community outreach to help raise awareness regarding Georgia DOT and Georgia 511 initiatives and safe driving strategies.

“Using Crowdsourced Data for Real-Time Operations: Identifying Issues in Rural Utah during Holiday Weekend Travel” by Lisa Miller, Utah DOT: Lisa Miller is the agency’s Traveler Information Manager and the Public Information Officer for the Traffic Management Division. She is also the Outreach and Growth manager for UDOT’s new Transportation Technology group, which focuses on connected and autonomous vehicles and the adoption and deployment of those and other technologies. Lisa holds a Masters in Journalism and Mass Communications. She is also a graduate of the Operations Academy Senior Management and the FEMA Advanced Public Involvement Officer training programs.

Tracey Bramble, Iowa DOT is an information specialist managing content for Iowa DOT social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and the Transportation Matters for Iowa blog. She administers public relations campaigns surrounding teen driver safety and plans regional and national events co-sponsored by the Iowa DOT. Tracy has been with Iowa DOT for over 20 years and holds a B.S. degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from Iowa State University.

S. Sinclair Stolle, Iowa DOT is a Traffic Management Systems Engineer in the Traffic Operations Division. She previously served as the traveler information program engineer overseeing CARS, 511, and ATIS projects. She serves on the ENTERPRISE Pooled Fund Board, and recently served on the ITS Heartland Board. She has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University and is a registered professional engineer in the State of Iowa.

Moderators

James Colyar, FHWA EDC-5 Crowdsourcing for Operations Program Lead, FHWA Office of Operations focuses on traffic engineering, traffic analysis and modeling, intelligent transportation systems, and transportation systems management and operations. With the FHWA for 15 years, he has worked in offices in Arizona, Virginia, Washington D.C., and Washington state.
