Overview
The public response to Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) and traffic flow maps (via internet) has overall been a very positive one, but there is not much sufficient research to show what affect these tools have on traffic itself. To determine the impact on travel times, on-line surveys were created to collect feedback regarding traveler use of the travel time information displayed both on the roadside and on the web. An analysis of historical travel time displays as well as related traffic volume data from areas after the DMS followed.
