The National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE) hosted a virtual peer exchange with over 3 Fridays in September to bring together over 40 professionals in TSMO and ITS across approximately 20 agencies, from Caltrans to Virginia Department of Transportation, on TSMO and ITS asset management practices and programs. Representatives from Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Transportation Research Board (TRB) and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) participated during the virtual peer exchange held over 3 sessions. The asset management peer exchange was hosted on GoToMeeting virtually on September 11th,18th, and 25th, 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The sessions on September 11th and 18th, 2020 included presentations and open discussions during the virtual asset management peer exchange covering the following board topics:
- Defining Transportation Asset Management for TSMO and ITS
- Developing Inventories for TSMO and ITS Assets
- Tracking and Updating TSMO and ITS Inventories
- Operating and Maintaining TSMO and ITS Assets
After hearing from participants practices, programs and progress on TSMO asset management and lessons learned from ITS and other forms of asset management within public agencies, participants openly discussed next steps in formalizing and moving TSMO Asset Management forward. The roundtable discussion on September 25th, 2020 was focused around identify the following key actions:
- Future evolutions, needs and expectations in TSMO and ITS Asset Management
- Possible NOCoE and partner organization resources on TSMO and ITS Asset Management
