2019 Operations and Maintenance Peer Exchange

Overview

On June 11-12th, 2019, the National Operations Center of Excellence held a Maintenance Peer Exchange in Montgomery, Alabama. Hosted by the Alabama Department of Transportation, the purpose of the peer exchange was to facilitate knowledge transfer between state DOT operations and maintenance practitioners around the country. The peer exchange proceeding report is available here.

The overall theme for this event was the important synergy that has begun taking place among operations and maintenance divisions in state departments of transportation and the positive impact this is having on their respective missions and goals. The Peer Exchange covered the following topics with state DOT presentations in each topic area (See agenda):

  • Topic 1: Increasing Lane Capacity within Existing Right of Way (WA DOT, MI DOT)
  • Topic 2: Incident Management/Incident Response (MD DOT, TN DOT, MN DOT)
  • Topic 3: Work Zone Construction and Maintenance Needs (MI DOT, AL DOT)
  • Topic 4: Limitations and Restrictions for Maintenance in Today’s world (General Discussion)
