The Virginia Department of Transportation is partnering with the crowdsourced navigation app Waze to offer more real-time information to drivers.
VDOT recently announced in a statement the partnership in which the private and public entities will share app and website data. Waze apps provide up-to-date traffic information — like speeds, accidents and navigation — based on reports provided by users.

The founding of a federal ITS program was a crucial step that laid the foundation for the innovative research, development, deployment, and public-private partnerships that have continued to this day.
Motorists using the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s 511 traveler information system this winter have several new features to help them know what the state’s road conditions are before they venture out on the roadways.
“Overall, the 511 traveler information system is getting better each year and more people are using it,” said Kelly Braunig, 511 program manager. “These new features will help the traveling public make good decisions about winter travel.”

The Federal Highway Administration issued a final regulation Dec. 2 that will, effective Jan. 3, allow state transportation agencies to use the "construction manager/general contractor" method for federal-aid highway projects nationwide, an innovation that allows project designers to tap the know-how of actual builders during the design phase.
The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) is seeking a graduate student to work in the National Operations Center of excellence (NOCoE) during the spring 2017 semester. Questions are due no later than COB December 15, to the attention of Mr. Strat Cavros, AASHTO Manager of Acquisitions, Contracts & Business Development (Contracts Manager), at email@example.com. AASHTO will strive to answer questions and send those answers by e-mails to prospective interns by December 22.
This 13-minute video is part of a broader Security Awareness and Emergency Preparedness Training Program for Highway Division employees at MassDOT. The training is being conducted by the Security and Emergency Management Department (SEM) at MassDOT. The video and other parts of the training were developed with support from the Highway Operations Center and the Massachusetts State Police.
