Wisconsin DOT to Offer Weather Reports With its Traffic Alerts

Via Milwaukee Wisconsin Journal Sentinel

Motorists who monitor the state Department of Transportation's web site and social media will now receive alerts from the National Weather Service.

As several inches of wet, sloppy snow made roads slippery Tuesday morning, the DOT and National Weather Service announced the partnership that will provide timely weather-related information to travelers.

Wisconsin DOT will use its 511 travel information resources and DMS messages for winter storm alerts in the state, particularly storms that will have a significant impact on highway traffic safety —warnings for winter storms, blizzards, ice storms and lake effect snow.

The weather messages will appear as scrolling alerts on WisDOT's 511 website — www.511wi.gov. They will be included on the 511 automated telephone system and displayed as DMS messages either statewide or in a geographic area that will be affected by the weather.
