The U.S. Department of Transportation's Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Joint Program Office is pleased to announce that the National ITS Architecture and the Turbo Architecture software have been updated to Version 7.1 and are available at the National ITS Architecture website. The National ITS Architecture provides a common framework for planning, defining, and integrating ITS deployments.

The Architecture was developed and has evolved with stakeholder input, using a consensus-building methodology in accordance with legislative direction. The National ITS Architecture reflects the contributions of a broad cross-section of the ITS community and provides a definitive reference for ITS deployment planning.

This new version of the National ITS Architecture provides updated mappings to the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21) goals, objectives, and performance measures; an updated mapping to the most current ITS and connected vehicle standards; physical and logical architecture enhancements to support expanded Commercial Vehicle Information Systems and Networks (CVISN) applications including the Smart Roadside Initiative; and new linkages that connect service packages with the connected vehicle applications defined in the Connected Vehicle Reference Implementation Architecture (CVRIA).

The Turbo Architecture 7.1 update includes alignment with National ITS Architecture Version 7.1 and addresses issues reported by Turbo Architecture 7.0 users. Turbo Architecture is available as a free download from the National ITS Architecture website.
