State DOT Officials to Review Impact of Elections at November Annual Meeting

The heads of state departments of transportation will consider the impact of the upcoming elections and future federal and state policies as they gather Nov. 12-15 in Boston for the annual meeting of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.

Among guest speakers on Nov. 14 will be Mike Barnicle, a television political analyst and former Boston newspaper columnist, who will address the election results. The elections for president, Congress, governorships and state legislations can reshape the policy agenda for years to come.

Both major party candidates for president have said they would propose large new infrastructure investment programs soon after taking office. The elections will also decide which party controls both chambers of Congress, and who will lead state governments to decide their transportation funding policies.

Also addressing AASHTO that day will be Victor Mendez, deputy secretary at the USDOT. Federal Highway Administrator Gregory Nadeau will address the full AASHTO board at its meeting on Nov. 15.
