CDOT’s Executive Management has identified Advanced Technology as a major strategic focus area to be achieved during the next four years, towards the goal of becoming the best DOT in the nation.  Working with public agencies and private industry, CDOT’s goal is to make Colorado one of the most technologically advanced transportation systems in the nation, resulting in an increasingly integrated, multi-modal transportation system and yielding significant benefits in the areas of transportation safety and mobility. The Connected and Autonomous Technology (CAT) Program Manager position is created to focus on the research, development, and implementation of projects and initiatives in the area of advanced transportation technology including connected and autonomous vehicles in support of the Department's strategic goals.  While self-driving vehicles introduce a radical change in the transportation landscape, other examples of technology areas include transit, freight, bicycle and pedestrian safety, maintenance operation, real time traffic and incident management, and asset management.  CDOT aims to examine the applicability of both the Cellular and Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) platforms, as well as explore and leverage any emerging connected or automotive technology to best serve specific use cases.  This position will serve as a statewide expert, and presents a unique opportunity to make an impact on the state of practice and future of this field of practice in Transportation.  This position currently does not have supervisory responsibilities, but may supervise other FTEs in the future.

This position is located within the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Branch of the Division of Transportation System Management and Operation (TSM&O).  In close collaboration and coordination with, or as a resource to other programs and Branches within the Division of TSM&O, the RoadX program, the Division of Maintenance, the Regions, other transportation operations agencies and elected or appointed officials, this position will lead and support CDOT’s research and implementation of connected and autonomous technology and applications.. This position will interact with industry leaders in this field, at the local, state and national levels.
