PIARC RNO-ITS Web Resource By Patrick Son, P.E.
ITS America, in conjunction with U.S. DOT’s ITS Joint Program office and PIARC, worked collaboratively with experts around the world to develop the ITS content for the PIARC RNO-ITS Web Resource (mobile friendly). The PIARC RNO-ITS web resource is envisioned to be a tool to inform practitioners within the Road Network and ITS community of the decision making process regarding investments in ITS systems and services. The ITS content, coordinated by ITS America, was developed by 22 author-experts with the help of 23 external reviewers. The ITS content of the PIARC RNO-ITS web resource features over 35 case studies displaying examples of best practices from around the world, and is intended to be a resource that speaks directly to road network operators and ITS engineers. The information provided in the web resource also focuses on the needs of developing countries and countries with economies in transition.
This newest version of the web resource provides updated material, best practices, and multimedia examples in multiple topic areas including: integrated operations, network monitoring, electronic payment, ITS architecture and standards, human factors, finance and contracts, and project evaluation – thus addressing the wide breadth of topics affecting the RNO and ITS industry. The web resource also provides ITS engineers and road operators in emerging economies the tools with which they may maximize the potential positive impacts of recent advances in RNO and ITS best practices.
