New Connected Vehicle Data Sets for the Research Data Exchange
The USDOT’s Intelligent Transportation (ITS) Joint Program Office (JPO) announced the release of new connected vehicle data sets on the Research Data Exchange (RDE) under The Safety Pilot Model Deployment (SPMD) Program. The RDE now houses two months of data from the SPMD program and has been made available on the RDE website (http://www.its-rde.net).
The SPMD program was a research initiative testing the implementation of connected vehicle safety technologies, applications, and systems in real-world vehicles and multimodal driving conditions in and around Ann Arbor, Michigan. The SPMD’s objectives were to: “demonstrate connected vehicle technologies in a real-world, multimodal environment; determine driver acceptance and adoption of vehicle-based safety systems; evaluate the feasibility, scalability, security, and interoperability of dedicated short-range communications (DSRC) technology; and assess options to accelerate safety benefits”.
The RDE is a web-based data resource provided by the USDOT ITS Program to collect, manage, and provide access to data in order to support the development and testing of ITS applications. The SPMD program data now available on the RDE provides a valuable resource to researchers, application developers, and others working within the ITS, connected vehicle and infrastructure domain, as well as the development of applications to improve transportation operation and maintenance.
