Georgia DOT Awards $92.3 Million in Statewide Project Contract
Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has awarded 24 contracts for statewide construction and maintenance projects totaling over $92.3 million. These projects were advertised for bids in July, bids were received in August and contracts were awarded on September 2. The largest investment is the third leg of a major widening and reconstruction on State Route 140 in Bartow and Floyd counties. The 6.7-mile project —valued at nearly $56.5 million—will widen the roadway from two to four lanes beginning at SR 53 and extending west of Oothkalooga Creek; add a median; and improve and realign side roads to provide safer intersections.
The corridor serves residential, agricultural, commercial and industrial communities, and is a heavy truck route and a school bus route. The project will accommodate current and future traffic, and increase safety. The contractor is G.P.’s Enterprises, Inc. of Auburn, Ga. The projected completion date is June 30, 2021. Two related projects, already under construction along the corridor, include a widening and reconstruction of SR 140 from west of Oothkalooga Creek to SR 3/US 41 and two bridge replacements.
