The Connecticut Department of Transportation said it is launching new studies to determine what is needed in safety, rail, bus and traffic improvements in the Interstate 95 corridor, plus the potential for economic development in the 108 highway miles from Greenwich to North Stonington.

The initiative is part of Gov. Dannel Malloy's 30-year, $100 billion transportation vision known as "Let's Go CT."

The CTDOT said it has defined two separate multimodal planning efforts, one for I-95 West involving potential work from Greenwich to New Haven, and the other for I-95 East from Branford to North Stonington.

"Our goal is to develop a detailed implementation plan that includes conceptual designs, impact assessments, cost estimates and project phasing options," said CTDOT Commissioner James Redeker.
