The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Hosts Webinar on the Fundamental Principles and Research of the Security Credential Management System Proof-of-Concept (SCMS POC)

BACKGROUND

The USDOT is committed to ensuring that connected vehicle technologies operate in a safe, secure, and privacy-protective manner. For this reason, the USDOT has partnered with the automotive industry and industry security experts through the Crash Avoidance Metrics Partnership (CAMP) to implement a temporary proof-of-concept security system. The temporary proof-of-concept security system will enable the USDOT’s connected vehicle (CV) projects to address unanswered questions regarding the exchange of information among vehicles, roadway infrastructures, traffic management centers, and wireless mobile devices.

The USDOT’s Security Credential Management System Proof-of-Concept (SCMS POC) is a temporary system for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication such that the USDOT’s CV projects can trust in the validity of information received from each component within system—indistinct users whom they have never met and do not know personally.

WEBINAR OVERVIEW

This public webinar will discuss the fundamental principles and research under the SCMS POC. The webinar will address the following items, but not limited to:

• What is the SCMS POC and the eligibility criteria for the use of the SCMS POC?
• The SCMS POC Quality Access system’s enrollment certification process;
• How to access publicly available information regarding the USDOT’s CV projects and SCMS POC documentation;
• Collaborate on a certification test program that will provide connected vehicle vendors the ability to verify their devices meet key protocols within the connected vehicle standards;
• Discuss the upcoming October 16th PlugFest for connected vehicle vendors to experience the certification test program.
