Updates to “Security 101: A Cyber & Physical Security Primer for Transportation Agencies” NCHRP and “A Guide to Emergency Management at State Transportation Agencies, Second Edition”

Projects “Security 101: A Cyber & Physical Security Primer for Transportation Agencies” NCHRP 20-59(51)A and “A Guide to Emergency Management at State Transportation Agencies, Second Edition” NCHRP 20-59(51)B are currently being updated. This webinar is a status of the project efforts and allow for the attendees to provide input into these efforts. The update of project “Security 101: A Physical Security Primer for Transportation Agencies” provides transportation managers and employees with an introductory-level reference document to enhance their working knowledge of security concepts, guidelines, definitions, and standards. This is a document for use primarily by those who are neither security professionals nor well versed in security language. There are many types of security: personal, cyber, document, information, operations, personnel, infrastructure, etc. This document focuses on physical security, the part of security concerned with measures and concepts designed to (1) safeguard personnel; (2) prevent unauthorized access to equipment, installations, materiel, and documents; and (3) safeguard equipment, installations, materiel, and documents against espionage, sabotage, damage, and theft. The update of project “A Guide to Emergency Management at State Transportation Agencies, Second Edition” provides transportation agencies assistance in planning and developing their organizational functions, roles, and responsibilities for emergency response within the all-hazards context of the National Incident Management System (NIMS). The updated Guide will reference the latest state of the practice and guidance in emergency management. This effort will include guidance from USDOT, FHWA, AASHTO, FEMA, TSA, DHS, and TRB on emergency management from a state-level DOT perspective. Response impacts short- to long-term recovery; pre-disaster planning for post disaster recovery; and efforts to include resilience and sustainability should all be looked at and addressed in the updated document.
