This webinar is part of Traffic Management Center Pooled Fund Study project to share information on traffic management system (TMS) emerging topics and an ongoing series focused on sharing information on emerging traffic management system (TMS) topics being co-sponsored by the National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE), Traffic Management Center Pooled Fund Study, and FHWA.

This month, the topic is Using Variable Speed Limits (VSL) During Adverse Weather Events. The speakers will include:

Learning Objectives:

The intent of this webinar is to share information among agencies on using TMSs to effectively manage VSL during adverse weather conditions.  The use of TMSs to implement and operate VSL during adverse weather will improve safety during adverse weather and ultimately reduce crashes. By attending this webinar, participants will understand existing challenges in using VSL during adverse weather in order to better prepare for implementing new technologies and strategies, particularly with VSL, but also in general.

Target Audience:

  • State and Local Departments of Transportation;
  • Traffic Management Center Management;
  • Consultants or contractors;
  • Researcher/Academic; and
  • Other individuals interested in or responsible for:
    • managing traffic;
    • coordinating and responding to incidents and planned and unplanned events; and
