Summary:

This webinar will introduce practitioners to the theory, development, and application of empirical safety planning tools, which will equip engineers and planners with more system-based and area-wide safety analysis (i.e. macro-level) tools. Practitioners are now being asked by their clients and community leaders to recognize the Decade of Action and AASHTO’s Toward Zero Deaths Strategy that strive to significantly reduce, if not eliminate fatal and serious injury crashes. This cannot be done using microscopic tools alone, but must be complemented using macro-level tools. This webinar will discuss the seven principles of road safety planning as set out in the new NCHRP 8-76 report, introduce road safety planning tools using the macro-level technology, and discuss collaborative efforts necessary for making this promising road safety planning analysis technology a practical, readily available tool.
