Summary:

Traffic control signs provide critical information to roadway users to assist them in using the transportation system safely and efficiently. To fulfill their intended functions, signs must be large enough, properly positioned, and adequately visible both day and night. The MUTCD provides guidance to traffic engineers in applying, designing, and locating signs. “Module 2 - Signs” of this webinar provides participants with an introduction to the provisions of the MUTCD.

This Webinar will introduce the MUTCD standards and guidance that govern when and how to use these signs to provide information to road users in a timely fashion to aid in the safe and efficient use of the transportation system.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the application of standard sign sizes, legends, designs, etc. for various applications
  • Identify different types of signs (regulatory, warning, guide, etc.) their specific meanings and purposes.
  • Apply specific regulatory, warning, or guide signs to deal with typical roadway conditions.

A course evaluation must be completed. This enrollment and the evaluation is name specific and non-transferable. Site attendees may earn course credits upon verification by ITE staff. Instructions regarding the process will be provided to the site registrant.
