This webinar will explore how ATSPM is currently used to improve traffic signal timing and operations. ATSPM technology and strategies allow agencies to keep track of traffic signal performance on an ongoing basis. Instead of waiting for months for information from signal timing studies, agencies can respond to citizen complaints and operation issues within days and hours, saving agencies time and money.

Presenters
Christopher Day, Assistant Professor, Iowa State University, Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering(cmday@iastate.edu ) Chris Day is an assistant professor of civil engineering at Iowa State University. He previously worked at Purdue University for nearly seven years as a senior research scientist in the Joint Transportation Research Program. His research background is in transportation operations, with a focus on performance measures for signalized arterials and freeway operations. Automated traffic signal performance measures, a major product of this prior research, has been widely implemented across the US and internationally, and is becoming a standard tool in modern traffic control.

Rob Klug, Clark County Washington (Rob.Klug@clark.wa.gov) Rob is the Traffic Signals Manager for Clark County Public Works, in Clark County, Washington. He graduated in 1993 from the University of Washington with a BSCE he has worked as a consultant, as a civil designer, a transportation planner, a transit planner and as a traffic engineer specializing in operations. He has designed and turned on over 150 traffic signals. Rob is a former President of the Northwest Section of the International Municipal Signal Association, and has multiple certifications from that organization in addition to being a professional engineer.

Jamie Mackie, Utah Department of Transportation (jamiemackey@utah.gov) has been a statewide signal engineer for the Utah Department of Transportation since 2011. She manages the operation of half of the state's 1,200 traffic signals, oversees the Signal Desk at the Traffic Operations Center, and develops UDOT's Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures website. Jamie attended both Iowa State University and the University of Texas in Austin. She has 13 years of experience in traffic signal operations.

Moderator
Eddie Curtis, FHWA (Eddie.Curtis@dot.gov) manages the FHWA Office of Operations' Arterial Management program. He has over 20 years of experience in traffic signal management and operations. Eddie received a BS in Civil Engineering from California State University, Los Angeles and an MS in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech.
