Enhancing Transportation Safety Through Integrated TSMO Strategies

Start Date:

-

Summary:

Join us for an enlightening webinar hosted by the National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE), in collaboration with the TSMO and Safety Councils of ITE—A Community of Transportation Professionals (ITE). This session will focus on the connection between the Safe System Approach (SSA) and Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO), showcasing how TSMO strategies can be implemented to create a safer and more efficient transportation network.

Speakers will emphasize how TSMO initiatives—such as real-time traffic management, incident management, road weather management, work zone management,  traveler information systems, multimodal integrated corridor management, active transportation and transit strategies, and transportation operations industry and technology trends—can be implemented with safety in mind. Safety and operations are inherently linked: operations programs can enhance mobility and support safety goals by reducing the risk of roadway crashes, injuries, and fatalities; safety programs can support mobility goals by reducing crash-induced lane closures and related traffic disruptions.

Participants will learn how making the connection between the SSA and TSMO strategies can lead to meaningful improvements in road safety, contributing to the National Roadway Safety Strategy (NRSS) goal of reaching zero roadway fatalities.

Speakers:

  1. Dr. Priyanka Alluri, Florida International University
  2. Jim Hunt, FHWA
  3. Meghan Mitman, Fehr & Peers
  4. Sam Harris, Georgia  DOT
  5. Ian Barnes, Fehr & Peers
