The Crowdsourcing for Advancing Operations Exhibit Hall is open every day from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Come by, catch up with friends, play games, and learn how crowdsourcing can help your agency improve operations, investment planning, and more. Our FHWA, peer, and technical experts will offer visitors demos of real-time and archived cloud-based analytics dashboards, point individuals to open source code to jumpstart data applications, and field crowdsourcing-related questions. Dec 9 1:45 PM Peer Perspective with Jamie Yount, Colorado DOT
Jamie Yount, Winter Operations Program Manager with Colorado DOT, will highlight features of their new operations dashboard that provides visualizations of vehicle probe, Waze alert, and closed-circuit television camera data to significantly reduce their incident detection time. Jamie will also highlight how Colorado DOT uses crowdsourced data for variable speed limits. Jamie will close with future Colorado DOT efforts for even more significant benefits. After a 10-15 minute presentation, Jamie will be available for a question and answer session.
Dec 9 2:15 PM Peer Perspective with John Parker, Pennsylvania Turnpike
John Parker, Senior Traffic Operations Manager with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, will share features of their Catch it Early, Act, Analyze and Review (CAAR) application, which integrates information from social media, a crowdsourced navigation app, a vehicle probe data vendor, and weather alerts to help the Turnpike reduce their incident clearance time by 28 minutes. After a 10-15 minute presentation, John will be available for a question and answer session.
Dec 9 3:10 PM Fireside Chat with Ed Cox, Engineering Director of Traffic Management, Indiana DOT
Ed will share the story of how Indiana DOT began leveraging vehicle probe data to quickly improve travel time along an unplanned freeway detour route from four hours to one hour within days. He will also cover how they developed a suite of tools that enable improved signal timing, work zone management, project prioritization, situational awareness, and incident detection –all with a single data source. Using crowdsourced data will save Indiana DOT over $28M in infrastructure deployment costs.

Dec 9 4:15 PM Peer Perspective with Stephanie Marik & William Welch, Ohio DOT
Stephanie Marik, the Data and Performance Measures Engineering Analyst, William (Bill) Welch, Program Administrator for Data Analytics and Automation, both at the Ohio DOT, will highlight how analysts and operators at Ohio DOT are making better decisions by accessing multiple crowdsourced data. They will touch on how they use data to evaluate snow and ice performance, TSMO system performance, detect and respond to roadway queues, post speed and travel time information through DMS and 511, prioritize traffic signal retiming, evaluate work zone performance, and manage variable speed limits. After a 10-15 minute presentation, Stephanie and Bill will be available for a question and answer session.
Dec 9 5:00 PM “Tom Talk” Live with Thomas J. Bamonte, North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG)
Like that other phenomenon where experts speak briefly to share ideas, our own “Tom Talk” features Thomas Bamonte, Senior Program Manager for Automated Vehicles with NCTCOG. You have two opportunities to hear Tom share NCTCOG’s innovative approach for region-wide 911 integration with data from a free navigation app. Thomas will also highlight the region’s strategy for big data and “smart” car explorations.
