Summary:
CARMA is a United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) program developed by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) involved in advancing research and development of cooperative driving automation (CDA) with the objective of accelerating market readiness and deployment. CDA enables automated vehicles (AVs) to communicate between vehicles, infrastructure devices, and road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. The webinar will introduce two products of the CARMA Ecosystem, CARMA Cloud and CARMA Streets. CARMA Cloud is a cloud-based management of transportation systems. CARMA Streets is a vehicle-to-infrastructure roadside platform. The webinar also presents what is next in the CARMA program. Register today to learn how your organizations can implement CARMA products to enrich your transportation research.
Speakers:
- Taylor Lochrane, FHWA – CARMA Overview
Taylor Lochrane, Ph.D., P.E., CARMA Program Manager, Federal Highway Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation. Dr. Lochrane is the CARMA Program Manager for the Cooperative Automation Research Program in the Office of Operations Research and Development located at Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC). He is currently leading a team of engineers developing the CARMA platform which supports testing and evaluation of cooperative driving automation (CDA).
- Kyle Garrett, Subcontractor– CARMA Cloud
Kyle Garrett is a founding Principal with Synesis Partners and has over forty years of systems engineering and project management experience. In that time he has worked with transportation systems, information technology, wireless commerce, and nuclear power. Kyle and Synesis Partners are providing infrastructure systems analysis and data modeling for the CARMA Cloud project; analysis of traffic regulations on automated driving systems for FHWA; and support for AASHTO’s cooperative automated transportation efforts. He has also been extensively involved with road weather data systems such as FHWA’s Weather Data Environment and its work on Integrated Modeling for Road Condition Prediction. Kyle is a member of the Transportation Research Board Standing Committee on Road Weather.
- Wade Goforth, Leidos – CARMA Streets
Mr. Goforth is a systems engineer with over 12 years of experience in engineering project planning, management, design and execution. He led the development of New York Air Brake’s LEADER, a control system for freight trains, receiving four patents for control algorithms. At Omnitracs, he led development of the Critical Event Video product, receiving a patent for using driver duty status data to control video recording. Additionally, he led development and testing of many features of the FMCSA’s Electronic Logging Device mandate, including the complicated log editing and eRODS requirements.
