Understanding Utilization of Third Party Data and Information

Overview

Private vendors sell and provide third party data for a variety of transportation purposes, including commercial freight, personal navigation, data to benefit transportation companies, and more. This data can be helpful for a multitude of reasons, including maintaining safety and mobility of the entire transportation network. The purpose of this project was to better understand what information providers are offering, how different states are using the data they receive, and how they can use the data best in the future.
