Overview of Freeway Service Patrols in the United States

Overview

This report is a summary of the Freeway Service Patrols (FSPs) in the U.S.. Information gathered was pertaining to organizations and resources, operating practices, vehicles and equipment, and types and levels of services offered. 40 states had at least one FSP, in varying locations within each state. The data from each FSP was collected and organized into a comprehensive chart of all of the FSPs, states, areas served, and responsible agencies. In addition, data was gathered which detailed how many FSP vehicles were owned by each particular program, as well as how many vehicles were on Patrol at a given time. The data is not only summarized, but also laid out in graphs and charts in this report.
