Overview
The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) developed the Systems Management and Operations (SM&O) Plan to guide strategic investments in transportation technology and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) infrastructure within the region. This plan aims to enhance the operation and management of critical transportation system elements, focusing on optimizing existing infrastructure without expanding capacity.
The SM&O Plan identified 25 strategies for implementation during Phase 1 (Fiscal Years 2020 to 2024), with an estimated investment of $80 million. These strategies prioritize infrastructure needs in key corridors and recommend improvements to enhance system operations.
The plan has been recognized for its excellence, receiving the Best ITS Planning Project award from ITS Arizona in 2018.
