Guidelines for Disseminating Road Weather Advisory & Control Information

Overview

In light of the growth in available weather and road condition information, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has created guidelines for communicating road weather information so that travelers can access the information in a way that is most useful and convenient for them.

This project (Testing and Evaluation of Preliminary Design Guidelines for Disseminating Road Weather Advisory & Control Information) is an updated and improved version of an earlier project (the Human Factors Analysis of Road Weather Advisory and Control Information), which aided transportation officials in communicating road weather information effectively, consistently, and timely to those who needed or wanted it. These guidelines were evaluated by both State Department of Transportation staff, who were working at Traffic Management Centers, as well as staff from private agencies. Feedback was gathered from those who responded to surveys, interviews and discussions, and general application of the initial set of guidelines, and used to modify and improve the guidelines into the revised guidelines presented in this document.
