Assessment of Telematic Service Provider Data Feeds

Overview

In the late 1990s, ENTERPRISE worked with General Motors' OnStar to research how automatic collision notification (ACN) technology could improve road safety and traveler information if emergency medical staff and transportation agencies could access the data from said systems. Since then, OnStar has published a data stream for emergency services and transportation agencies to use. Recently, automobile manufacturers have been offering similar services--Ford provides SYNC and Hyundai offers Assurance Connected Care. Some insurance companies (like State Farm) offer similar safety services as well.

The purpose of this project was to research the current data provided by OnStar and similar services, and see how this data could be used to behoove travelers, as well as suggest the potential value of such data for transportation agency operations.
