Overview
Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) includes traffic incident management, traffic signal coordination, freeway management and management of multi-modal transportation systems. The webinar will begin with an explanation of the current challenges as well as providing an overview of TSMO. This will be followed by an explanation of the analytical aspects of TSMO to provide participants with a solid foundational understanding. The current and future value of analytics, will also be discussed. As society becomes more technology and data-driven, the ability to understand, visualize and analyze data is increasingly important. The use of dashboards to create a visual approach to analytics will also be explored, along with an introduction on how use descriptive analytics to analyze dashboards, such as those in Business Intelligence software programs, such as Tableau. The application of predictive analytics, and prescriptive analytics for operational management and decision optimization will be explained. This will also include a discussion of how machine-learning works in big data, how to scale machine learning to modern challenges and how to incorporate enabling technologies and statistical analysis to make the data work to improve TSMO.

Bob McQueen Bob is a creative problem solver with superb verbal and written communication skills, combined with proven technical, business planning, business development and marketing experience. Mr. McQueen is highly experienced in advanced transportation technology-related business building, opportunity analysis and relationship building. He has particular skills and experience in the use of advanced data collection techniques, real-time monitoring and performance management systems. He is currently an industry consultant with Teradata. He specializes in assisting public agencies to understand the effects of ITS, harnessing the full potential of recent advances in data science, including data lake creation and the application of discovery techniques to data. Current assignments focus on Smart Cities and transportation data analytics to explain the effects of ITS and the effectiveness of transportation investments. McQueen is a former chair of ITS Florida Board and current chair of the Emerging Technologies Forum for ITS America. He is based in Apopka, Florida.
Petros Xanthopoulos : Petros is an assistant professor of Decision and Information Sciences at Stetson University. He holds an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. from the University of Florida, Industrial and Systems Engineering Department and has been working on data mining and analytics over the last ten years. He has co-authored and co-edited four books on the theory and applications of analytics and he is currently teaching statistics and managerial decision analysis courses for the M.B.A. and undergraduate programs of the School of Business Administration. He is a member of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science as well as the data mining and analytics section of it.
