TMS Emerging Topics Series: TMCs Actively Managing and Operating Part-time Shoulder Use

Overview

The webinar highlights current practices with TMSs actively managing and operating the part-time use of shoulders (PTSU) as an operational strategy in response to recurring or non-recurring conditions. PTSU has been implemented on freeway and other types of roadway facilities to improve safety and reliability of travel when conditions warrant. The webinar presents the capabilities and resources TMSs may need to actively manage and operate PTSU on different types of facilities. The webinar also discusses the key policies, procedures, issues, challenges, benefits, and lessons learned with TMSs managing and operating PTSU.

This webinar is part of Traffic Management Center Pooled Fund Study project to share information on traffic management system (TMS) emerging topics and an ongoing series focused on sharing information on emerging traffic management system (TMS) topics being co-sponsored by the National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE), Traffic Management Center Pooled Fund Study, and FHWA.
