Overview
This webinar focused on the latest advancements in work zone safety, including the use of emerging data and innovative applications.
Emerging datasets, such as those provided by connected vehicles (CVs), crowdsourced data, probe data, and image analytics, demonstrated their potential as effective surrogate measures for safety, enabling a more proactive approach to identifying safety issues within a work zone.
The session highlighted three case studies from Arizona, Iowa, and Virginia, showcasing how connected vehicle data and other emerging datasets have been leveraged to enhance work zone safety.
As with any emerging data source, practitioners often face challenges in aligning new data with traditional data collection practices. This webinar summarized a wide range of evaluated use cases, including monitoring speed limit compliance, enhancing transportation management plans, assessing measures of effectiveness, analyzing distracted driving in work zones, and identifying historical safety risks.
