2026 World Cup Mobility Strategies: Travel Demand Management

ACT Logo

This webinar, hosted jointly with the Association for Commuter Transportation, looked closely at the mobility strategies for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with a focus on TDM.

Mobility planning and transportation operations are essential to holding a successful large-scale planned special event. This is true for both the attendees and organizers as well as for the local population whose mobility needs often remain unchanged over the course of the event. And, from now until 2028, the United States will be hosting three major international events: the FIFA Club World Cup this summer, the 2026 World Cup, and the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, CA.

Experts in TDM and mobility and operations shared best practices and lessons learned for planned special events and how to safely and efficiently move people to enjoy some of the world's great spectacles.

Speakers Included:

  • Casey Murphy, Senior Director of Events, Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT)
  • Jonathan Hopkins, Principal & Founder, Smart Mobility Associates
  • Lauren Matter, Founder & TDM Lead, Journey
  • Natalie Bettger, Senior Program Manager, Congestion Management and System Operations, North Central Texas Council of Governments
  • Mike Swires, Assistant Region Administrator Traffic Operations, Washington State DOT
