Agency Improvement

Missouri Department of Transportation

MoDOT 2025 Transportation Systems Management & Operations (TSMO) Summit

The 2025 MoDOT TSMO Summit strengthened MoDOT’s real-time operational capabilities and embedded TSMO principles into everyday agency practice. The goals of the summit were to bring together team members from across the state and to identify strategies to improve safety and reliability for all roadway users. The summit delivered clear and measurable benefits to MoDOT, MoDOT’s partners, and travelers for both safety and workforce readiness and in the identification of immediate operational improvements.

Best TSMO Project

Oklahoma Department of Transportation

OK Snowplows: Turning Winter Operations into Real-Time Traveler Information

Oklahoma DOT developed OKSnowplows.org to allow travelers to view real-time snowplow activity and road conditions helping the public make safer and more informed travel decisions during storms, and increasing transparency and trust in ODOT’s winter maintenance efforts. The Snowplow Naming Contest further enhanced public trust and goodwill by presenting winter operations in a fun, approachable, and educational way.

Emerging Trends & Technologies

Connecitcut Department of Transportation

CTDOT Wrong‑Way Driving Detection System

CTDOT launched a comprehensive Wrong‑Way Driving (WWD) program in response to 13 wrong-way crashes resulting in 23 fatalities in 2022. The program aims to prevent wrong‑way entries, improve response times, and gather reliable data to strengthen future interventions. Since these efforts were implemented, wrong way crashes have decreased significantly in Connecticut, dropping 61.5% by 2024 compared to 2022.

Performance Measurement

Florida Department of Transportation

Regional Express Lanes Integration & Operational Performance

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 4 operates a regional Express Lanes network designed to deliver reliable, performance-based mobility with an emphasis on corridor-wide performance measurement and informed operational decision-making tools for both system operators and the traveling public. This approach has delivered measurable, corridor-wide reliability results, including 99% Time Spent at an Average Speed, reflecting reliable travel conditions throughout the corridor.
