2023 TRB Student Contest

Win Free Travel to TRB 2023

Overview

The National Operations Center of Excellence will be sending two students to the 2023 TRB Annual Meeting, taking place January 8-12, 2023 in Washington, DC. 

How to Participate

Students are asked to submit a video or series of photos that demonstrate their understanding of TSMO and their ability to communicate how TSMO or new mobility applications will directly impact the lives of the traveling public.

Examples include:

  • A TSMO Moment video: a 90 second to 3 minute video describing the student’s interaction with TSMO or smart mobility in their work, including a “lightbulb” moment of understanding the impact TSMO can have on the lives of the traveling public.

  • A short (90 second to 3 minute) video on a technology, TSMO or mobility project that they either worked on or that exists in their community. Examples might include a new operations strategy implemented in their community that has improved safety or mobility or a video on research or work they have undertaken.

  • A photo project capturing TSMO or mobility solution with brief (less than 500 word) description on the impact the project is making.

  • Any other idea you have to demonstrate the value and important of smart mobility and TSMO.

Students can draw examples from a recent NOCoE TSMO Moment video or case study videos

Please note: all photos and videos must be original and/or owned by the submitter. 

What Do You Win?

Two winning students will be provided with a travel stipend to TRB 2023 to cover airfare and hotel for 3 nights (totaling no more than $2000).

Students will meet with NOCoE team at the start of TRB week and will be provided with meet-and-greets with transportation industry leaders. Previous meet-and-greets included: agency leaders, private sector executives, TRB committee leaders.

How To Submit

The deadline for submissions is Thursday, December 1, 2022. Student will be notified if they won no later than Thursday, December 8 and must be ready to immediately book travel to 2023 TRB. 

Submissions should include: 

  • Your full name, college or university, department and degree being pursued
  • A one paragraph / 100 word description of your education background and career goals
  • A link/attachment to your submission

All submission must be sent to Adam Hopps, ahopps@transportationops.org by no later than Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 11:59pm ET.

Entry Requirements

All entrants must be currently enrolled at a university or college. Students outside of civil engineering are encouraged to participate, including both graduate and undergraduate students.

All entrants must be eligible for the TRB Student Affiliate or Non-Member Full-Time Student registration category.

All entrants must ensure that their submissions do not pose any copyright infringements.

Lastly, all entrants must acknowledge their availability to attend a selection of events at TRB 2023, including:

  • Introductory meeting with NOCoE team member(s)
  • Attend ITE TSMO Council and be introduced to attendees
  • Attend at least one of the TRB Freeway Operations or TRB RTSMO Committees
  • Attend at least 2 meet-and-greets with industry leader
