The City of Seattle lacked standard protocols in planning for and responding to major traffic incidents on its roadway network prior to a crash in March 2015 that effectively paralyzed the city during the evening rush hour. This webinar will tell the story of what went wrong, and how Seattle brought in a team of consultants and nationwide experts in the field to help them improve their Traffic Incident Management program. Attendees will understand the concept of “Traffic Incident Management” and its importance to transportation, public safety, and local economies.
Attendees will learn about how the City of Seattle realized it needed to improve its response mechanisms following a crippling incident in March 2015.
Attendees will recognize the importance of cooperation between local transportation departments and local law enforcement in responding to traffic incidents.
Attendees will improve their ability to evaluate their own local capabilities in responding to traffic incidents, and potentially recognize the need for introduction of more formal systems before a major incident adversely affects their jurisdiction.
