Motorists using the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s 511 traveler information system this winter have several new features to help them know what the state’s road conditions are before they venture out on the roadways.
“Overall, the 511 traveler information system is getting better each year and more people are using it,” said Kelly Braunig, 511 program manager. “These new features will help the traveling public make good decisions about winter travel.” Read More

The Federal Highway Administration issued a final regulation Dec. 2 that will, effective Jan. 3, allow state transportation agencies to use the "construction manager/general contractor" method for federal-aid highway projects nationwide, an innovation that allows project designers to tap the know-how of actual builders during the design phase. This 13-minute video is part of a broader Security Awareness and Emergency Preparedness Training Program for Highway Division employees at MassDOT. The training is being conducted by the Security and Emergency Management Department (SEM) at MassDOT. The video and other parts of the training were developed with support from the Highway Operations Center and the Massachusetts State Police.
Digital construction management practices helped the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation save more than $1 million on projects across the state this year, officials said this week.
